Workshops from the Activists' Legal Project
Preparing for Action
A workshop for groups who are planning a specific action, or for
groups considering taking part in direct action at some time in the
future who want to find out more about the legal issues. The workshop
will be tailored to your group's particular needs, but will concentrate
on covering the things you need to know before taking action including
the arrest procedure, rights in custody, bail and possible criminal
charges. For more information on other aspects of taking direct action
see our Direct Action Resources Page.
Post-action
A workshop for those who have been arrested and charged, which will
look at the specific charges, court procedure, deciding whether to be
represented, possible defences, and penalties on conviction.
Legal workshops at gatherings or events
A general legal workshop for activists or those considering taking
direct action which will cover the commonest criminal charges that
activists are likely to encounter, the arrest process and your rights
on arrest.
Contact us if you would like to organise a workshop for your group or at an event you're organising.

The
Activists' Legal Project is run by volunteers who are not legal
experts. If in doubt take legal advice on the specifics of your
situation from a solicitor. Our briefings only relate to the law in
England and Wales. For information on the law in Scotland see Scottish Activist Legal Project website. If you see any errors in our briefings or we have missed any changes in the law then please contact us.
